Most people want love: whether from others or from themselves. It’s a common thread among old and young, advanced and traditional cultures.
So what stops so many from experiencing love?
Most people are afraid to feel love because they don’t how to deal with changing into the type of person that attracts love.
Becoming the type of man that lives life fully is not easy.
The idea behind Habit Transformation is that you can change yourself to be better and that implies that you must learn how to deal with change.
If you want to travel the world but are afraid to take the first step, your journey will never begin. If you want romantic love, you must be okay with settling into the idea that it won’t happen right away.
“If you are distressed by anything external, the pain is not due to the thing itself, but to your estimate of it; and this you have the power to revoke at any moment.” – Emperor Marcus Aurelius |
How to Deal with Change Immediately
I’m a huge advocate of meditation because it empowers you to deal with things head on. Many fears dematerialize as soon as you face them. Meditation is useful because of visualization and conscious breathing.
A simple exercise you can do is to set a timer for 9 minutes and:
- Sit in a chair while slowing your breath.
- Let go of any judgements of whether something is good or bad and just close your eyes and breath.
- As you relax, contemplate what you are stressed about.
- Before you imagine anything else, just think about what the worst possible outcome would be. Will you lose a limb or die? Will you have to start over? Be realistic about the worst possible outcome. You might notice your heart beating abnormally fast.
- Keep breathing and notice every physical reaction in your body and mind.
- Consider how you would face these obstacles if you actually had to. Recall that you’ve overcome obstacles in the past- you actually already know how to deal with change.
- Cycle through those emotions; don’t attempt to change them or judge them. Just breath. Breath and let go.
- Keep your inner self moving back and forth between the thoughts of what could go wrong and how you would adapt.
You’ll feel better, and overcome any obstacle, if you stay the course and remain calm.
Life isn’t easy, but it’s livable and you can learn how to deal with change, while also learning how to be a better man.
